About me
Dr. Jaclyn Evans earned her bachelor's degree in Neuroscience from Boston University. After working in research for a few years, she realized that this was not her calling and returned to school, earning her Doctor of Psychology from William James College. As part of her graduate training, Dr. Evans specialized therapeutically in trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and phase of life changes. She learned psychological and academic evaluation, provided these assessments to children and adults, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in psychological and neuropsychological evaluation.
For psychological, neuropsychological, or academic testing, Dr. Evans accepts clients age 5 and older. Common requests for evaluation are to assess for possible autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and specific learning disorders. Evaluations can also assist in clarifying a diagnosis, tracking neurological changes following a head injury, looking for signs of dementia, and more. While evaluations are time intensive, they can help provide answers, direction, and closure.
In therapy, Dr. Evans typically accepts clients in high school and older. She is passionate about helping her clients find and/or create purpose or meaning in life. She believes in a collaborative approach to therapy where you (as the expert on yourself) work to establish your therapeutic goals and provide feedback and what works and what does not. Dr. Evans has previously worked in university counseling centers and is familiar with those systems, the unique challenges of college students, and the needs and concerns that may arise. In addition to specialties in trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and life changes, Dr. Evans also greatly enjoys interpersonal work, existential/philosophical work, and exploration of identity and one's sense of belonging.
Dr. Evans uses she/her pronouns. She grew up in Florida and lives in the greater Athens area. Dr. Evans would self-describe as a nerd and a geek. If you look closely, you're likely to see sci-fi and fantasy references around the office. Dr. Evans also enjoys hiking, cooking, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Athens is a "little big town", and you may see her around! If you do, you are welcome to say hello, but, to preserve your confidentiality, she will not initiate any contact in public.
